Malikapurathamma

Malikapurathamma

Malikapurathamma is the most revered upadevatha at Sabarimala. Two popular beliefs surround her origin. One states that she emerged as a divine lady from the body of the defeated demoness Mahishi, desiring to stay close to Lord Ayyappa.

The second belief says that she was the daughter of Ayyappa’s guru, who became a Sanyasini and wished to remain spiritually connected to him. Tantric scriptures describe Malikapurathamma as the form of Adi Parasakthi.

Main offerings include turmeric powder, saffron powder, jaggery, honey, kadali plantain, and red silk.
